Featuring recordings from their successful workshop with the American Alliance for Theatre and Education (AATE), in this session Karen Erickson will guide participants through an exploration of neglected yet powerful teaching strategies for drama. Educators will deepen their understanding of the following strategies: Compare and Contrast, Graduated Difficulty, Pair Coaching, Mystery, and/or Multisensory Experiences. For each strategy, Karen or Danielle will demonstrate a lesson from Ms. Erickson’s curriculum that utilizes the strategy. The goal of this session is to encourage and support participants as they incorporate unique teaching strategies into their classrooms, address the range of learning styles among their students, and create a space where every student is engaged, challenged and uplifted. We recommend participants begin the session with a lesson or drama activity that they would like to enhance with a new instructional approach.
